History and Family

Tiraholm is situated on a penisula on the west-coast of Lake Bolmen. Its closeness to water made Tiraholm a natural habitation where Bronze-age burial grounds have been found. In the beginning of the fifteenth century the first known owner of Tiraholm was Peter Gumundsson.

The legendary Ebbe Skammelsson is supposed to have lived here several hundred years ago.

In 1928 grandfather Per Ekwall bought Tiraholm, and the farm was cultivated by him and his family and was taken over in the late forties by his son Gustaf.

We, that is Vicky and Nisse Ekwall, rented the farm from 1981, initially we farmed the land and started the fishery, after a couple of years we decided to concentrate on fishing. In 1986 we bought Tiraholm and at that time we also had our children, Jens and Malin, Jonas appeared a couple of years later. Since the beginning of the nineties we have had employed staff. In 2008 Orné and Yvette joined us from Holland. Orné works for us full time as a fisherman. We also have some young people helping us, together with our own children, efficiently running the restaurant, kitchen and farmshop in the summer months.
